WKFM demands for release of FAI in USARawalpindi, MTT News Desk: World Kashmir Freedom Movement is expressing grave concern over the arrest and detention of the Executive Director of Kashmiri American Council, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations.

Dr. Fai, as the Executive Director of the Kashmiri American Council for over 20 years has become the internationally respected spokesman for the political and civil rights of 13 million Kashmiris who have been struggling to seek freedom from the illegal Indian occupation.

Kashmiri American Council was founded by Kashmiri Expatriates in Washington DC at the height of a campaign of state terror waged by the Indian occupation forces in Kashmir in 1990.

In that ongoing brutal campaign hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians have been murdered, maimed and raped by the Indian security forces. KAC is one of the leading advocacy groups in the United States of America and around the world, championing the cause of freedom of Jammu and Kashmir through all peaceful means.

With Kashmiri voices suffocated by 0ver 600,000 Indian military and paramilitary forces, Kashmiri American Council, World Kashmir Freedom Movement and other similar international advocacy organizations remain the only voices of conscience highlighting the plight of their homeland.

Millions of Kashmiris, in and outside Kashmir who have felt disillusioned with the world Community’s inability to help them gain their right of self-determination in the last 63 years, are feeling even more indignant at the seeming collusion among states to silence the voices of freedom even in nations that have historically recognized and supported the Kashmir’s right of self-determination.

Dr. Fai’s detention is seen by the Kashmiris as the newest and the lowest point in the international power politics at the cost of rights of a disenfranchised nation.

Curtailing his diplomatic and civil rights activities will only hurt the cause of a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute. Such tactics will not vanquish the spirit of freedom so deeply ingrained in the hearts and minds of all Kashmiris.

Indian occupation will have to end some day. Curtailment of his freedom to freely advocate the cause of an oppressed people does a great disservice to the cause of liberty and justice everywhere.

We trust and pray that the American Judicial system will prevail over the unjust curtailment of Dr. Fai’s personal freedoms in a nation that values freedom and justice for all.

We appeal to the Kashmiri people everywhere to remain calm, peaceful and hopeful because our cause is just, our aims are noble and the American judicial system generally does the right thing when the wheels of justice are allowed to turn without interference from all sides.

We plead with our American civil society to stand with their fellow Kashmiri Americans to make an effort to understand and support the Kashmir cause as we wait and pray for the wheels of justice to turn. We all love the United States of America and together we stand for justice for all.
