London, MTT News Desk: The people of Pakistan are shocked by the arrest of Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, the Director of Kashmir American Council. According to press reports, the FBI  has alleged in a 43-page affidavit filed in a court for indictment of two US citizens on charges that they failed to register with the Justice Department as agents of Pakistan.

One of the accused - Zaheer Ahmad - is in Pakistan, but the other, Dr Fai, lives in Virginia and was arrested on Tuesday, July 19. Mr. Fai hails from Indian Occupied Kashmir which has been denied a plebiscite in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions agreed to by India and Pakistan as early as in 1949.

That India has resiled on its agreement to hold a plebiscite proves it acknowledges that the Kashmiris want to join Pakistan.

Rifah Party calls upon the Government of Pakistan to; 1) accept the verdict of people of Kashmir and amend the Constitution to declare Jammu and Kashmir to be a part of Pakistan. Further, 2) the Pakistan Embassy in Washington be directed to extend consular support to Dr Fai and bear legal expenses. The identity of Dr Fai is ‘American Muslim’. The support of all Muslims in the USA needs to be mobilised to defend Dr Fai as his arrest is clearly intended to demonise and criminalize every Muslim struggle for freedom and self-determination.

American Muslims do not act as ‘foreign agents’ when they campaign for a legitimate cause of any section of Muslim suffering occupation or persecution. There are thousands of American groups campaigning for peoples in all parts of the world denied their rights.

Does the US consider them ‘foreign agents’? There are hundreds of US funded NGOs in Pakistan and almost every country of the world.

If campaigning for Kashmiri right of self-determination has become a crime in the USA, the work of every US funded NGO must be deemed to be engaged in working for foreign country.

Rifah Party calls for: 3) the arrest of Asma Jehangir as US agent and closing down of all NGOs working for American interests.

America is a bully and it never hesitates to attack the weak within and without. Pakistanis have been under attack by US drones and Indian inspired takfiris in FATA and KPK.

That the Government of Pakistan has hesitated to even name the attacker has encouraged India and America not only to continue their attacks but also to demonise legitimate resistance in Afghanistan and Kashmir.

The Indo-Zionist bullies are on the run in both places and are likely to act destructively. Pakistani people have the will and the ability to stand up for what is right.

It is now for the Government and the Armed Forces to act with grace and dignity to repel the aggressors. The three measures proposed above by Rifah Party would be an eloquent response to the arrest of Dr Fai.
