Srinagar, September 05, 2010: Protests continued in Bandipore and Handwara areas against Ikhwan, the dreaded terrorist group sponsored by Indian army.
Hundreds of people took to streets at Ajas in Bandipore and raised pro-freedom and anti-Ikhwan slogan. They blocked Srinagar-Bandipora road and halted Army convoys for hours.
“We are protesting against the authorities for attempting to revive the renegade culture in the area.
Every such attempt which can be harmful to the ongoing agitation will be fought against,” said an elderly person, Ghulam Hassan Butt, while addressing the protesters.
Personnel of Indian Forces used brute force and fired teargas shells to quell the protests.
The Bandipora district has been witnessing protests since the news broke out that Government of India and its authorities in the occupied territory have approached some former Ikhwanis (Government-backed gunmen) to recruit youth to suppress the ongoing agitation.
Meanwhile, scores of men, women and children in Vilgam area of Handwara staged demonstrations against the Ikhwanis and the police. They shouted anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.
