Srinagar, MTT News Desk: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) of India opened fire upon a group of student protestors resulting in the death of an 18 year old, Mohammad Altaf, on Thursday the 5th of January.
The students were protesting outside of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation in the Baramulla district of Occupied State of Jammu & Kashmir (OSJK) against ongoing power outages during sub-zero weather conditions when three soldiers opened fire upon the group of protestors without
provocation.
In a rare climbdown some Indian Ministers have condemned the shooting as murder and five members of the CISF have been arrested.
However, it is exceptionally rare that, even when a perpetrator is arrested, a criminal case is brought to fruition leading to the guilty receiving a punishment.
KCEU request that members of the public take urgent action on this matter and forward their concerns to the relevant people. By bringing this matter into the limelight we increase the likelyhood of an honest conviction.
In the meanwhile, a thirty-year-old shopkeeper was also killed and three civilians were injured in Sopore town when Indian Special Operation Group (SOG), escort of Superintendent of Police (SP) and Central Reserve Police Force fired in the town.

The victim was identified as Meraj-ud-Din Hajam, father of two, a 30 year old shopkeeper.
Witness testimony identifies that the SOG fired indiscriminately into a crowd of civilians after having come under attack by unknown perpetrators.
“Policemen retaliated the fire. A civilian was killed and five others including two policemen were injured in the shootout,” police said.
Locals witnessed soldiers of the Special Operation Group SOG and the troopers of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had beaten up civilians indiscriminately and fired after the attacks.
The firing created panic in the main chowk and other areas.
All the four victims were shopkeepers who had just opened their shops. The victim owned an embroidery shop in Auqaf Market Sopore.
The shopkeepers said that he was inside the shop when the incident took place and tried to flee. He was struck by bullets and died immediately.
